Egypt is keen on maximising the benefits of coordination and consultation with Kenya during Egypt’s chairmanship of the African Union, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said
The president gave his remarks during his meeting with a Kenyan delegation led by Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma.
The delegation included the Kenyan attorney general and the director of the National Intelligence Service.
Welcoming the delegation members, the president conveyed his greetings to Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.
El-Sisi stressed Egypt’s keen interest in promoting bilateral relations between the sisterly African countries in various fields.
For her part, Juma praised the success of the last African summit in Addis Ababa, during which El-Sisi took over as chair of the body for 2019, adding that it reflects Egypt’s pivotal role within the African Union.
The meeting covered several regional issues of mutual concern, the latest developments in the Horn of Africa and means of bolstering mutual cooperation to combat terrorism and extremism, El-Sisi’s spokesman Bassam Rady said.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Director of General Intelligence Abbas Kamel attended the meeting.
Juma also held a separate meeting with Shoukry where they discussed the latest regional developments in Africa and ways to boost cooperation between the two countries.
