The Egyptian cement export is an exit factor for African markets, as the country has seen a major boom in cement exports to reach about 10 million tons at the end of 2022, said Tarek Talaat, managing director of Misr Cement Group, on Sunday.
During his speech at the Builders of Egypt Forum 2023, entitled “Egypt’s Propitious Momentum towards Construction Sector Exportation Regionally”, he added that the challenge facing the cement and clinker industry was how to reach African markets.
Talaat added that the sector has about 20 million tons of surplus capacity, noting that indicators for the first four months of 2023 indicate that expected export rates have exceeded about 12 million tons during this year.
He also noted that sustainability and green cement are the next stage in the clinker and cement industry, stressing that sustainability will be implemented during the production process to provide an environmentally friendly product, reducing the reliance on clinker.
Talaat concluded that the cement industry accounts for 10 percent of the world’s total carbon emissions, stressing that Egypt is ready to move towards sustainability and a green economy.
