Egypt, the world’s top wheat importer, has bought around 2.905 million tonnes of wheat during the first half of 2014-2015 fiscal year, vice chairman of state buyer GASC said.
According to Mamdouh Abdel Fattah – vice chairman of the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), Egypt has bought those amounts of wheat at a total cost of 5.5 billion Egyptian pounds (US$768.8 million) on the international markets.
GASC has recently contracted to purchase a total amount of 300.000 tonnes of wheat from Russia and France, including 240.000 tonnes of French wheat and 60.000 tonnes of Russian wheat. The wheat will be imported starting on January 21st over a period of 10 days.
