Egypt and Cyprus agreed to start talks in December over establishing a natural gas pipeline to transfer gas from Cypriot fields to Cairo.
Negotiations between both parties will include using an already existing pipeline system from depleted Egyptian gas fields to liquefaction plants at Idku and Damietta, the Chinese news agency added.
Xinhua further noted that Egypt will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Greece, Cyprus, and Italy early December to build a gas pipeline, sponsored by the European Union, to link the eastern Mediterranean fields of Italy via Cyprus and Greece.
President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi on Monday headed to the Cypriot capital of Nicosia on an official two-day visit to attend the fifth Egyptian-Greek-Cypriot tripartite summit.
