Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced on Wednesday the launch of largest concentrated solar energy and photovoltaic energy project in the world, at a cost exceeding 15 billion dirhams ($4 billion).
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid added during the COP28 that the project will reduce carbon emissions by more than 1.6 million metric tons annually.
The project extends over an area of 44 kilometres, includes the highest concentrated solar energy tower in the world at a height of 263 metres, and also includes the largest thermal energy storage capacity in the world.
Dubai aims to have 100 percent of the emirate’s energy production capacity come from clean sources by 2050, as well as achieving complete carbon neutrality by the same year.
He further added: “we repeat our message that we are serious about investing in clean energy, serious about confronting climate change, and serious about preserving the environment for future generations.”
