The Division of Bikes and Motorcycles at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce called on the Cabinet to reduce the customs tariff levied on imported bikes from 30% to 10%.
The Division submitted a memorandum to the Cabinet, asking for reducing the customs tariff levied on bikes, as the customs tariff that is levied on children’s bikes which is 30% has highly increased the prices of them, said Mohamed Moustafa, General Secretary of the Division.
The consumer is the one who pays this increase and the merchant is being accused of greediness, Moustafa added, noting that bikes are not like the strategic goods which shall be subject to high customs tariffs.
The Division also demanded amending the law which levies customs tariff of 5% on spare parts of bikes as some merchants import these spare parts from outside Egypt and assembling them in the country.
