Chinese imports to Egypt hit $2.6bn in 8 months

Egypt’s imports from China rose by 0.4 percent in January-August 2016, representing 13.4 percent of state’s total imports.

The total volume of Chinese imports recorded 49.7 billion Egyptian pounds (US$2.6 billion) during the first eight months of 2016 opposed to 49.5 billion pounds a year earlier.

The monthly bulletin of state’s statistics body CAPMAS on foreign trade showed that Chinese exports to Egypt witnessed a 2.2 percent increase in August 2016 to around eight billion pounds compared to 7.8 billion pounds in August 2015.

Egypt’s imports of Chinese machines and electric sets jumped by 4.3 percent to 10.8 billion pounds in January-August 2016 opposed to 10.4 billion pounds at the same period of 2015, representing 21.8 percent of Egypt’s total imports from China.

The bulletin stated that Chinese imports to Egypt declined to 2.2 billion during the first eight months of 2016 opposed to 2.8 billion pounds a year earlier, making a 20.1 percent drop.
