Shanxi Province in North China, a major coal producer, aims to reach a coal output of approximately 1.3 billion tons by 2024, as outlined in a provincial government work plan cited by Xinhua news agency.
The province will prioritise safe, efficient, green, and intelligent development of its coal industry, optimising production capacity and increasing the share of advanced capacity.
This aligns with the province’s focus on stable coal production and supply. China’s energy-rich provinces are undergoing significant changes in their industrial structure and energy sources to achieve high-quality growth.
Shanxi’s coal output is expected to decrease voluntarily for the first time in 2024, following seven years of rapid growth from 832 million tons in 2016 to 1.378 billion tons in 2023.
