An alliance led by Canadia’s Stantec has won a bid for developing the infrastructure of the sanitation project around Lake Qaroun in Fayoum Governorate in central Egypt with a €456.5 million ($508.6 million) finance, sources told Amwal Al Ghad on Sunday.
The project finance will be provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and European Investment Bank (EIB).
The company has submitted more attractive technical and financial offers than its competitors in the context of this call for expressions of interest. Stantec, specialised in construction engineering, employs 22,000 people worldwide.
The work is expected to take five years. It is about the extension of the sewerage network. It will allow the effluents to be transported to eight new wastewater treatment plants. HCWW will also rehabilitate and extend at least 10 existing wastewater treatment plants in the governorate, as well as build 139 pumping stations.
The future facilities are expected to serve 940,000 people, mainly in eight rural districts of Fayoum governorate.
