British Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox arrived in Egypt for his first official visit to the country to unveil new deals in transportation, healthcare, and financial services.
In an official press release on Monday, the UK embassy in Cairo said that Fox will meet with Egypt’s Minister of Trade and Industry Amr Nassar and Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr to discuss new investments in Egypt.
This is Secretary of State Fox’s first visit to Egypt since his appointment in 2016.
The visit forms part of his tour to North Africa as the UK continues to take forward steps towards achieving its commitment to be the number one G7 investor in Africa by 2022, according to the embassy.
“The UK is committed to becoming the largest G7 investor in Africa by 2022 with a particular interest in strategic, job-creating sectors that will see our mutual economies grow. I look forward to establishing new partnerships during my visit to enhance the trade ties between Egypt, North Africa and the UK,” Fox said ahead of his visit.
British Ambassador to Egypt Sir Geoffrey Adams said that the “UK is proud to be a leading investor in Egypt, and I am delighted we can demonstrate our support for the Egyptian government’s plans to continue to grow the economy for the benefit of all Egyptians.”
