Banks in Egypt issue 2.5 million Meeza Cards since 2018

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said that the number of users of ‘Meeza’ national payment card have reached 2.5 million since its launch in December, Ehab Nasr, Assistant Sub Governor.

He noted that said that providing financial services to all segments of the society is part of the national economic reform program.

He added that the CBE is planning to issue 20 million Miza cards within the next three years.

In October 2018, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced its intention to issue the Miza card before the end of the year as part of its strategy of transforming into a non-cash society and enhancing financial inclusion

CBE said launching this payment system comes within the framework of the bank’s plans that aim at making the Egyptian society less dependent on banknotes and in line with directives of the National Payments Council to the governmental bodies which offer public services to citizens.
