AVEVA underscores digitalisation role in industrial decarbonisation

by Aya El Sayed

AVEVA, an international pioneer in industrial software that drives digital transformation and sustainability, announced on Tuesday that it will show at COP28 how using data in a connected industrial economy can speed up the journey towards a sustainable future.

As a gold sponsor of the International Chamber of Commerce pavilion, AVEVA is participating in the Blue Zone of the United Nations Conference of the Parties in Dubai, UAE, in order to foster connections between developed economies and the global south.

AVEVA’s leaders will showcase how digital solutions can reduce the CO² emissions from current industrial structures, boost efficiency in the value chain, and save costs that can be redirected to clean technologies.

At COP28, AVEVA’s delegation will be spearheaded by CEO Caspar Herzberg, with Lisa Wee, the Head of Global Sustainability; Harpreet Gulati, the Senior Vice President and Head of PI System Business; Evgeny Fedotov, the Senior Vice President for EMEA; and Nayef Bou Chaaya, the Vice President for MEA.

Herzberg stated: “the world must dramatically cut waste. The industrial sector accounts for a quarter of global emissions. Every day, our customers prove that digitalization enables industrial companies to drive measurable carbon reductions, including for traditionally energy-intensive industries.”

Additionally, Fedotov said that collaboration is “essential” for optimising global value chains and joint efforts are equally important for promoting decarbonisation.

This is the reason AVEVA aspires to participate in the discussions at COP28, to foster necessary and inclusive progress towards climate change by establishing connections among international communities.

“While AVEVA helps industrial customers optimize their existing processes and operations, we drive innovation, opening up new industry frontiers, that leverage emerging green technologies,” said Chaaya.

He further added that their software equips teams with integrated insights, enabling them to make swift, informed decisions. This ensures resilience and efficiency, which ultimately leads to sustainable success. The most significant way we can impact the world is through the positive effects our solutions have on our customers.

According to Lisa Wee : “at AVEVA we want to lead by example in the fight against climate change. We have already cut our scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 93 percent and we are actively working to reduce the environmental impacts of our value chain.”

Wee also continued that they have made considerable progress in developing solutions that are inherently low-carbon and equipped with features to enable industries to decarbonize, promote a circular economy and adapt to global warming impacts.”

Gulati also added: “harnessing the potential of green hydrogen could avoid up to 80 gigatons of cumulative CO² emissions by 2050, contributing to as much as 20% of total abatement required to drive the net-zero economy.”

He explained that, for the hydrogen sector to serve as an alternative fuel source, it will need a novel approach to transportation, distribution, and regulation. By integrating advanced digital twin and AI technologies, industries can uncover innovative ways to enhance efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
