Egypt’s leading construction firm, Arab Contractors will carry out the country’s nuclear power plant in Dabaa, in cooperation with a Russian firm, chairman Mohsen Salah announced Thursday.

In February, Russia signed a memorandum of agreement to help Egypt build the Dabaa power plant, and shortly after a delegation of Egyptian experts travelled to Moscow for consultations over financial and technical aspects.

The nuclear power plant in Dabaa, close to the western coastal city of Marsa Matrouh, will be with investment cost exceeding US$8 billion.

Speaking to Amwal Al Ghad on Thursday, Arab Contractors’ chairman said a preliminary contract was already signed on El Dabaa Nuclear project after Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC), held last March.

Arab Contractors was commissioned by the Egyptian government to compete and carry out the nuclear project, Salah noted.

As pursuant to the contract, Arab Contractors is set to build the fundamental construction works in addition to the concrete infrastructure of the power plant.

Furthermore, Arab Contractors is studying new alliances with foreign companies to implement more national projects in Egypt, he added, referring that the company may take part in new thermal power stations projects.
