Tech giant Apple will invest over $250 million to expand its regional campus in Singapore’s Ang Mo Kio district, Reuters reported on Thursday.
This expansion will involve a major upgrade of two buildings acquired by Apple in 2022, located directly across from their existing offices, Reuters cited the company’s statement.
The move signals Apple’s commitment to Singapore, which has been a key hub for the company’s operations in the region since 1981.
Singapore is truly a unique place, stated Apple CEO Tim Cook. “We’re proud of the connections we’ve built with this dynamic community of creators, learners, and dreamers.”
Apple’s Singaporean presence began in 1981 with a small team of just 72 employees focused on the Apple II, one of the company’s early personal computers.
Since then, the Singapore campus has flourished, currently housing over 3,600 employees and serving as a central operations center for Apple in Southeast Asia.
Tim Cook is expanding Apple’s presence in Southeast Asia during his visit to the region.
He is set to meet with Singapore’s incoming Prime Minister-designate, Lawrence Wong, and the current leader, Lee Hsien Loong, as reported by Bloomberg News.
