Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi congratulated Tunisia’s new president Kais Saied on his electoral win, expressing hopes for more cooperation between the two countries.
“I send my congratulations to the Tunisian people… for electing a new president, wishing Saied success towards the best interests of Tunisia and its people. I wish for more constructive cooperation between our countries in various fields; composing a common vision to resolve various issues of bilateral interest,” Sisi said on his official Facebook account.
Sisi’s statements came shortly after Saied was announced president by a landslide victory. He won 72.71 percent of the votes against contender Nabil Karoui.
Fifty-five of Tunisia’s eligible voters turned out to cast their ballots. The presidential elections took place on Sunday, a few months after the death of president Beji Caid Essebsi in July.
