Egypt eyes 20% growth in printing, packaging manufacturing sector exports

by Sanaa Allam

Egypt targets a 20 percent increase in the exports of printing and packaging manufacturing sector to $1.6 billion this year, deputy of the Egyptian Export Council for Printing and Packaging Papers said on Monday.

These exports, which earlier registered $1.3 billion during 2018, represent five percent of the country’s non-petroleum exports, Ahmed Gaber added.

The Export Council for Printing and Packaging Papers’ strategy focuses on exporting books to the European market, where the council will participate in Book Fair Exhibition that will be held in England and Germany this year, he said.

“China exports books worth $1.2 billion per year, while Egypt’s share of book exports does not exceed five percent,” the Egyptian official said.

The European market imports packaging materials estimated at around $63 billion, he said.

“Therefore, the council seeks to increase the number of exporters by 20 percent in sectors of printing and packaging manufacturing within the current year,” Salah concluded.
