Egypt’s Military Production Minister Mohamed al-Assar met on Friday with Bruce Xiao, the international operations’ manager of Chinese company CITIC and his accompanying delegation to discuss building an industrial complex for the production of solar panels from quartz.

The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters within the framework of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with CITIC in June 2016, aims to establish the largest industrial complex for the production of solar panels using Egyptian sand to meet the demands and energy needs of the Middle East and Africa.

The memorandum is part of the ministry’s plan to cooperate with international companies to transfer and localize manufacturing technology in various fields, including solar panels.

Bruce Xiao noted CITIC’s desire to cooperate with the Ministry of Military Production, where its companies and units have high technological capabilities and trained technical personnel.
