The volume of UK investments in Egypt has reached $5.4 billion during the period from 1970 until April 2016, Egypt’s investment authority announced in a statement on Saturday.
According to the Egyptian General Authority for Investment (GAFI), there are 1,393 UK-national operating in Egypt, in industrial, service, construction, financial, tourism, agricultural, and communications and information technology sectors.
Around 273 UK firms work in the Egyptian industrial sector; while there are 580 others operating in the service sector, GAFI’s report found.
In addition, the report also showed that there are 171 British firms working in the construction industry, 52 in financing activities, 181 in tourism, 38 in agriculture, and 101 in CIT sector.
For the geographical distribution of the UK investments in Egypt, GAFI said Cairo comes on the top, where there are around 636 UK firms. Giza comes second with 307 UK firms investing in the governorate.
Red Sea region ranked third capturing a number of UK firms amounting to 148, followed by Alexandria with 120 firms.
