Egyptian electricity and renewable energy ministry has added 6,882 MW to state’s power grid in 2015 with total cost of 38 million Egyptian pounds (US$4 million), minister Mohamed Shaker said Monday.
He added that it is the first time to add this amount of 6,882 MW within one year.
Shaker stated that his ministry seeks getting Chinese fund to implement pumped-storage hydroelectric power station in Ataqah that will operate with PC+FINANCE system and the capacity of 2,100 MWs.
The minister added that the ministry will sign power purchase agreement for feed-in tariff scheme of solar power by the end of January 2015 notably after the investors has received the lands allocated for the project.
Recently, the Egyptian Cabinet has agreed in principle to a referendum from China’s Sinohydro company to establish pumped-storage hydroelectric power station in Ataqah, Suez governorate.
In the recent times the country has been struggling to ensure that power shortage problem is dealt with.
