Dubai Inflation down

The monthly consumer prices inflation rate in Dubai dropped 0.94 per cent in January 2012 compared to December 2011, due to decreases in several segments, according to the monthly report issued by the Dubai Statistics Centre.

Inflation of food and non-alcoholic beverages dropped 3.18 per cent; housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels retreated 2.19 per cent; miscellaneous goods and services shed 0.72 per cent; recreations and culture dipped 0.52 per cent; and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance retreated 0.46 per cent.

The groups of restaurants and hotels and communication both were up 0.01 per cent. Health climbed 0.08 per cent, transport increased 1.03 per cent and clothing and footwear jumped 4.94 per cent.

The report said the fall of the food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation rate was spurred by a fall in prices of vegetables, fruits, and fish and seafood at 14.80 per cent, 10.32 per cent and 0.95 per cent, respectively.

Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels went down because of the dip in the prices of rents by 2.91 per cent.

As for health, it went up due to the rise in the prices of medical services and X-ray by 0.65 per cent.

Equipment for the reception, recording and reproduction of sound and pictures led the decline in the recreation and culture group by 14.31 per cent.

Cultural services shrank by 2.38 per cent.

In the transport group, inflation hiked as prices of motorcycles surged by 9.14 per cent, spare parts and accessories for personal transport equipment 6.31 per cent, and other services in respect of personal transport equipment two per cent.
