Egypt, the world’s biggest wheat importer, has bought more than 1.2 million tonnes of local wheat since the start of the procurement season last month, Agriculture Minister Ayman Abou Hadid said on Sunday.
Abou Hadid said the rate of procurement might be slightly quicker than usual “due to high temperatures which led to the wheat maturing early.”
Egypt estimates its total local wheat crop this year at 9 million tonnes and the government is aiming to buy 4 million tonnes from the crop. Source:Arab Finance
