Egypt’s Railways Lost EGP25 Mln In 5 Months

Egyptian National Railways authority, according to its last statistics, announced that the volume of losses amounted to EGP 25.3 million during five months, from January to May 2013, due to the protests transpired on the railways tracks. The protests happened 515 times, divided into 477 times for the citizens and 38 times for the workers in the authority.

The statistics elaborated that the citizens’ protests during that period suspended 2355 trains, at average of 180 minutes for each train, incurring EGP 15.6 million losses. Meanwhile, the protests of the workers brought about suspending 169 trains, at average of 60 minutes for each train to incur EGP 9.7 million.

In January and February 2013, as to 212 protests by the citizens transpired, while 111 protests in March, 69 in April, and 85 in May. On the other hand, the workers protested 3 times in January, 7 times in February, 15 in March, 11 in April and 2 times in May.
