WHO’s plane lands in Egypt with humanitarian aid for Gaza

by Nada Ali

The World Health Organisation (WHO) sent a plane loaded with medical supplies for Gaza and it has landed on Sunday at Egypt’s El Arish airport, according to the Egyptian Red Crescent.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced the shipment to El Arish airport to address urgent health needs in Gaza. However, the supplies await access through the crossing.

“We’re ready to deploy the supplies as soon as humanitarian access through the crossing is established,” Ghebreyesus posted on X platform. He added “we continue our plea to Israel to reconsider the decision to evacuate 1.1 million people (in Gaza).”

WHO calls for Israel to immediately reverse evacuation orders to hospitals in northern Gaza, and calls for the protection of health facilities, health workers, patients, and civilians.

The death toll on Sunday surpassed that of the third war between Israel and Hamas, in the summer of 2014, when 2,251 Palestinians, including 1,462 civilians, were killed, according to UN figures.
