Telecom Egypt finalised a deal to host AFR-IX Telecom’s Medusa subsea cable which will connect to the Red Sea through the operator’s network by the end of 2025, according to a statement published on Thursday.
The 8,760 km long submarine cable will provide more diverse and efficient connectivity to the whole world, and will further enhance Egypt’s position as a global digital hub, the statement added.
Under the agreement which signed during the Submarine Networks World event that took place in Singapore, the cable will start from Port Said and tap into stations in Suez, Zafarana, and Ras Ghareb through Telecom Egypt’s extensive crossing network.
Norman Albi, CEO at Medusa and AFR-IX Telecom, said “we will be able to unleash the full potential of Medusa and extend it towards the Red Sea, further enabling enhanced regional connectivity and providing more efficient connectivity to the whole world.”
