Samsung to set up mobile phone factory in Egypt

by Nada Ali

Samsung Electronics, the world’s biggest mobile phone maker, has agreed to set up a new mobile phone factory in Egypt as the country seeks to attract more investment, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology announced on Sunday.

This became apparent after the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, received the Head of Samsung Electronics Egypt, Jun Su Jung, and his accompanying delegation.

The new factory will build across 6,000 square metres in Beni Suef governorate to serve Samsung’s customers in Egypt and is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2023, as mentioned in the statement.

“Egypt has become an attractive destination for many major companies operating in electronics design and manufacturing,” Talaat said, adding that the company chose the North African country to serve the local market and export to regional markets.

The Egyptian government is keen to introduce incentive schemes for investors and provide a workforce well-versed in electronics-related specialisations, according to the ministry’s statement.
