The Valley of Yosemite park won’t be open to visitors this weekend in response to forecasts of floods, announced on Tuesday.
“This weather whiplash is what the climate crisis looks like,” Governor Gavin Newsom said upon visiting the Tulare Basin.
Michael Anderson, State Climatologist expected floods are more likely to occur in California later in May rather than this week.
He also added that handlers are emptying reservoirs to free space for anticipated floods.
The Valley has witnessed a record 40 inches of snow during the winter, which led to a full closure of the park on February for three weeks.
The park’s spokeswoman, Nancy Phillipe referred to the popular park welcoming around four million visitors annually.
