Second earthquake hits Turkey with 7.5 magnitude

A second earthquake of 7.6 magnitude hits southern Turkey on Monday, within 12 hours of a first massive quake of 7.5 magnitude that already claimed hundreds of Turkish and Syrian lives, according to U.S. Geological Survey.

The 7.5-magnitude hits Turkey at 1:24 p.m. local time (10:24GMT) four kilometers away from the southeast of Ikunozu town.

The total combined death toll has climbed to 912, while 5,383 were injured, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a statement.

Erdogan added “it is the biggest catastrophe we have ever faced since the 1939 Erzincan earthquake”, noting that 2470 buildings collapsing during the catastrophic incident.
