Prime Minister Mark Rutte said on Monday said the Netherlands would raise its annual contribution to climate finance in developing countries to €1.8 billion ($1.8 billion), about 50 percent up from last year’s levels, by 2025.
At the opening of the COP27 climate summit taking place in Egypt, Rutte said the increase would include a €100 million donation to the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Programme, a joint initiative of the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Global Centre on Adaptation.
“This money needs to go to those hit hardest by climate change,” Rutte added.
