Egypt is targeting a primary surplus of 2.3 percent in its budget for the financial year 2026/2027, Finance Minister Mohamed Maait said on Sunday.

Speaking at the Egyptian Economic Conference 2022 (EEC 2022), Maait said the country is also seeking to lower its debt ratio to 72 percent in the 2026/2027, to be the lowest in 42 years.

The minister expects Egypt’s budget deficit to fall to 4 percent of gross domestic product in the 2026/27 year, he added.
