Google shuts down its translation service in China

The U.S. company Google had stopped one of its main services Google Translate in China, after many years of withdrawing its search engine from there in 2010, according to its statement on Monday.

This action is marking the end of one of Google’s last remaining products in the second largest economy in the world.

The reason behind Google’s decision that it had noted the low usage of the translation service. While, this step paves the way for more technology giants in China that would exploit.

The dedicated mainland China website is now redirecting users of Google Translate to Hong Kong service’s version however, it is not reachable from mainland China.

Google has a very limited presence in China these days after it pulled its search engine off the market in 2010 with local competitors, including Baidu and Tencent, the main dominators of China’s internet service.

The U.S. technology giant’s other services such as Google Maps and Gmail are also effectively blocked by the Chinese government.
