The chairman of Egypt’s Qalaa Holdings (CCAP.CA on the Egyptian bourse), one of the country’s largest investment companies, was banned from leaving Cairo by plane, two security sources have just told Reuters on Monday.
According to the sources, Ahmed Hassanein Heikal, a high-profile figure in the Egyptian business community, was turned away at the airport in Cairo on Sunday as he was placed on a no-fly list.
Heikal was going to board a private jet headed to the Sudanese capital of Khartoum, one of the sources further told Reuters.
The sources did not disclose reasons behind placing Heikal on the list.
Qalaa Holdings has not responded to a Reuters’ report, nor did the Egyptian prosecutors office.
