Egypt allocated 122 billion Egyptian pounds ($7.6 billion) for higher education and  60.4 billion pounds for scientific research in the year’s budget, Finance Minister said on Saturday.

The country designated 3.8 billion pounds in the 2020/2021 budget for establishing and developing technological and private universities to make use of technological systems in various aspects of life given the state’s plan to move gradually to what he called Digital Egypt, Mohamed Maait added.

1.5 billion pounds has been designated for the quality incentives in universities, educational institutes, and research bodies as part of efforts to improve the incomes of university staff, Maait said.

“The budget supports government developmental plans including those related to university education given its direct impact on improving the human capabilities in Egypt andability to compete in the regional and international market,” he said.
