Egypt is nearing to record zero serious coronavirus cases in condition of people keep adhering to the preventative measures, according to a senior official at the country’s health ministry.
“We couldn’t say we have defeated the virus but we have controlled it,” the head of the scientific committee of the state’s anti-covid task force, Hossam Hosny said in TV comments late on Wednesday.
Most new covid-19 cases are in people who exhibit only minor symptoms, Hosny added (watch, runtime 5:57).
He added that there is still a possibility that a second wave could emerge, but that there are also positive signs that a vaccine could reach the market by December.
Egypt has been seeing a remarkable decline in recorded coronavirus cases, registering daily cases lower than 1,000 over the past two weeks.
According to Hosny, Egypt has four different treatment protocols for coronavirus patients based on the infection severity, patients’ ages, and whether they suffer from chronic diseases.
