Egypt detected 347 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, surpassing the 10,000 infections mark to report a total infection tally of 10,093, and 11 new deaths bringing the total deaths from the virus to 544.
According to the ministry of health The statement said that 154 patients, have been discharged, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2326.
Health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said in the statement that the number of people whose test results have turned from positive to negative, including the 2326 recoveries, has now reached 2811.
Despite lockdown measures imposed in March to contain the spread of the virus, Egypt’s infections tally continued to surge to report over 10,000 in infections in less than two months.
The first case of COVID-19 in Egypt was confirmed on 14 February, and though it took seven weeks to reach the milestone of 1,000 infections on 4 April, it has taken just three days to move from 7,000 to 8,000 and four days to reach 10,000 from 9,000 this month.
