Egypt announced on Sunday a three-phased plan to prepare 34 hospitals nationwide to handle any coronavirus cases that might be detected in the country, part of precautionary measures.
Health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said in a statement that these hospitals will provide diagnostic tests for coronavirus infection, quarantining, treatment, following up with patients after recovery, and scientific researches among other necessary medical services.
As part of this plan, Health Minister Hala Zayed has also directed to lift the efficiency of three old quarantine hospitals in Cairo; Omrania Chest Hospital, Imbaba Fever Hospital, and Imbaba Chest Hospital, Megahed added.
As of Sunday, Egypt has 6,456 coronavirus infections, an increase of 272 cases from the day before.
