Zuhair Murad, the Lebanese fashion designer known for his bright colours, created a show for Paris Haute Couture 2023 dominated by black and gothic looks.
Murad’s previous collections were inspired by the Belle Epoque era and the 70s French Riviera, which makes his new collection odd but captivating.
“The entire mood of the collection is gothic,” Murad said. “I went back to the era of mysterious work, abandoned mansions, and dark nights.”
According to Vogue Runway, Models walking the runway felt like “Edgar Allan Poe muse” in gowns with peekaboo lace corsets, cage skirts, or raven-like feather embellishments.
The collection also included references to mysterious creatures of the night such as moth wings created by silver detailing, spider web-like embroidery, silhouette of a bat made by tulle bows and necklines.
A macabre rose was also depicted on the finale look of the wedding dress, which Murad though was a “very important element in the collection. It’s a symbol of romance and tragedy at the same time.”
