Zamalek Release Benin Striker Omotoyossi

by Amwal Al Ghad English

Zamalek management decided Friday to release their Benin striker Razak Omotoyossi due to his unjustified absence from the team’s training.

“The management agreed to leave Omotoyossi out of the team’s squad due to his absence,” Zamalek board member Sabri Serag said.

Benin striker Omotoyossi, who took part in both the 2008 and 2010 African Cup of Nations, revealed that he won’t return to Egypt if he does not receive outstanding unpaid wages from last season that was canceled after Port Said massacre. Zamalek owe Omotoyossi some $70,000 from the last campaign.

“Razak will be a free agent to join any team in case he gives up his fees with Zamalek,” he added.

The 26-year-old striker has not attended Zamalek’s training since the game against Mazembe in the fourth round of the last edition of the CAF Champions League.

“We decided to take this action against the player after failing to reach him, as he didn’t join the team’s training for a long time.”

The Cairo giants Zamalek signed Omotoyossi on a three-year contract after he left Swedish side Syrianska FC. The team’s boss Jorvan Vieira had earlier decided to leave Omotoyossi out of the team’s 23-man African squad.

Zamalek are preparing to face Gazelle of Chad in February in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
