Dr. Tarek Wafiq, Minister of Housing and New Urban Communities Authority, will open a workshop tomorrow entitled “Combating irregular, unsafe, and unlicensed buildings in Alexandria.” The workshop is organized by the Egyptian Engineering Association in Alexandria, and will be attended by a number of officials and experts.
Wafiq declared that the Ministry, in cooperation with relevant ministries, will work during this period on handling the problem of irregular buildings, which has resulted in the collapse of buildings in different provinces, and that the Ministry will give special attention to this issue.
The first session of the workshop will discuss the dimensions of the problem and the proposed solutions. The second session includes considering the requirements for implementing these solutions whether on behalf of the security bodies or district heads, in addition to presenting the technical procedures set by engineering professors and experts in construction. In the third session, Chancellor Mohamed Abdel Aziz El Gendy, former Minister of Justice, will give a speech and explain the legal aspects of the problem. By the end of the workshop, a number of draft decisions will be declared.
The workshop will be attended by the Head of the Egyptian Engineering Syndicate, a large number of officials at the Alexandria, leaders of security bodies, professors at the faculties of engineering and law at the University of Alexandria, in addition to a number of experts and NGO’s officials.
