Hatem Dowidar, CEO of Vodafone Egypt stated that Vodafone networks have been affected by 25% in Cairo due to the frequent power outages that occurred in different areas in one day.
The company’s towers have witnessed a complete breakdown in 7% of the specified areas, he said, adding that the remaining percentage depended on the batteries attached to the towers to operate base stations in the period of power failure.
He explained that users will not be compensated for the network breakdown given that power outage is considered a force majeure. Moreover, law prescribes that in such circumstances, the company shall not compensate the users for the damages incurred.
The company’s networks, which reached about 10.000 being distributed on the level of the governorates, are suffering from infringement and burglary, he said, adding such burglaries may include robbing the solar tanks at the stations which, in turn, affects performance of the networks.
