Vodafone has launched a competition entitled “Vodafone App Star” for developing mobile applications. University students and fresh graduates are encouraged to apply until the 26th of next October. The competition includes two rounds: the first round will take place in Egypt next November, while the second round will be launched in December on an international level.
Mohamed Al-Ayouti, Business Development Senior Manager at Vodafone Egypt, stated that a panel of experts and specialists in local industry will select the best local applications and the winners will receive cash awards; EGP 100.000 for the first winner, EGP 50.000 for the second, and EGP 20.000 for the third.
The Winners will also have an opportunity to enter the international competition which will be held in South Africa, in cooperation with Seven branches of Vodafone in the Middle East including Egypt, South Africa, Qatar, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Lesotho.
Keen on enhancing creativity and innovation among young people, Vodafone has created a gateway for supporting developers,especially juniors, Al-Ayouti said. He emphasized that the applications presented by the winners and the best ten participants at Vodafone App Store competition will be activated, allowing Vodafone users to access and download them. Moreover, Vodafone will organize advertising campaigns for the winning applications on its own expense, which would increase the number of local applications and facilitate communication with the innovators.
