U.S. Supports Lebanon’s Stance Toward Syrian Crisis

by Amwal Al Ghad English

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called Lebanese President Michel Suleiman Sunday, expressing the U. S.’ support to Lebanon’s position toward the Syrian crisis.

Washington supports Lebanon’s stance based on the “Baabda Declaration,” which stipulates that it will refrain from involvement in regional and international struggles, said a statement released by the Lebanese presidential media office.

Suleiman thanked Kerry for his concern, saying Lebanon supports a political solution to the Syrian crisis instead of violence and any external military interference.

Admitting the Syrian refugees in Lebanon have placed a heavy burden on his country, Suleiman said “Lebanon is about to propose summoning an international conference … whereby it shall demand the support of capable states for its political stand in this respect.”

Kerry meanwhile vowed his country’s readiness to extend necessary aids to the Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
