The British Embassy in Cairo has issued Saturday a security warning on Friday advising their citizens in Cairo to avoid any gatherings and public spaces over the weekend, October 8-9.
“We advise avoiding large gatherings & public spaces such as concert halls, movie theaters, museums, malls & sports venues in Cairo until 9 Oct.” the embassy said in a statement.
This comes after the US and Canadian embassies in Cairo had strongly advised earlier on Friday their citizens “to avoid large gatherings and public spaces such as concert halls, movie theaters, museums, shopping malls, and sports venues in Cairo through Sunday, October 9, due to potential security concerns.”
Both the UK, U.S., and Canadian statements did not specify the reason for security concerns behind the warning.
Over the past 5 years, foreign embassies have usually issued similar warnings related to planned mass protests in Egypt.
