Abu Dhabi-based International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on Monday has sealed a deal with the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) to accelerate African countries’ access to sustainable and modern energy.

The agreement aimed at supporting African countries in their efforts to achieve the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7, according to IRENA’s statement.

“The creation of a more equitable energy system is dependent upon a more interconnected, flexible and reliable power grid in the region.,” stated IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera.
