Tunisia’s tourism revenues went up by 54 percent in the first half of 2023 to reach 2.221 billion dinars ($716 million), according to the central bank figures on Friday.
The revenues went up from 1.438 billion dinars during the same period in 2022. The recovery of tourism come as a hopeful turn to its troubled economy.
Tunisia’s foreign exchange reserves fell to 21 billion dinars ($6.78 billion), which is enough to cover imports for only 91 days, compared with a year ago when they could cover imports for 123 days.
