Ahmed Abdel Zaher, head of the Egyptian Trade Union Federation (ETUF), asked Dr. Farouk El-Okdah, Governor of the Central bank of Egypt (CBE), to maintain the rights of 4500 people working at National Societe Generale Bank (NSGB) after the sale of the bank. ETUF has the right to be present at the singing of any agreement related to workers in order to ensure the protection of their rights.
Farouk El-Awady, President of the National Trade Union of Banks, Insurance & Financial Affairs, affirmed the need for greater coordination and active participation of the bank and the administrative committee of the trade union in setting the rules and regulations related to workers, in line with the national laws and international agreements. El-Awady called on NSGB to pay the contributions of workers to the trade union.
Qatar National Bank officially requested to buy Société Générale’s stake in NSGB which is 77% of the shares of the bank. This has ignited the anger of workers who held a protest from two weeks.
