Eng. Mohamed Nawawy, CEO of Telecom Egypt, has put off his today’s meeting with a number of the company’s employees. This meeting was supposed to be held yesterday.
Eng. Mohamed Ziada, spokesman of the coalition of Telecom Egypt employees, stated that this meeting aims at reforming the administrative structure of the company, in addition to the advancement opportunities for various engineering positions.
He added that the company has started to consider the employees as an invincible force, especially in light of the increasing number of protests, which were attended to by the company. The aim of the sit-in staged in front of the cabinet by the beginning of the current week was to transfer their demands, to top officials, particularly due to the resignation of the company’s CEO Eng. Akil Beshir.
He told Amwal Al Ghad that Eng. Khaled Desouki, Deputy Director og the technical service sector, has met a number of representatives of the employees by the end of last week and discussed their demands. Desouki emphasized that he will consider the employees’ demands concerning restructuring managerial positions, reforming the promotion system, and choosing employees for certain positions.
On the other side, the employees have organized a protest in front of the cabinet, asking for dismissing the board of directors and restructuring the salaries of second-degree employees who occupy the company’s senior managerial positions.
The coalition of Telecom Egypt employees, the so-called Saving Telecom Egypt Group, Sons of Telecom Egypt, and the company’s independent Association, have participated in the protests , pointing out to the need of combating corruption in the company.
The demands of the employees include dismissing the board of directors, restructuring the salaries, and expanding the health insurance to cover both the employees and their families, in addition to forming a judicial commission to look into the files of corruption in the company.
