Telecom Egypt (TE) aims at replacing copper cables with fiber optic ones for around 4 million homes at the end of 2015, the company announced in a statement released Tuesday. This step comes among company’s tripartite plan.
TE stated that the total cost of replacing the cables is estimated at two billion Egyptian pounds (US$ 255.4 million).
By replacing the cables, TE aims at meeting the needs of its clients by providing them with the latest communication services and techniques through maximising the role of the fiber optic cables instead of the copper ones besides installing the multi-service access node (MSAN).
Telecom Egypt has finished installing 1,500 MSAN units in different areas to serve 1.5 million homes, the statement added.
The state-owned landline monopoly targets boosting the number of installed MSAN units to 2,000 at the end of 2015 in order to provide services for two million homes through the fiber optic cables which are transferring data with high speeds in comparison to the copper ones.
On other side, Telecom Egypt has achieved net profits estimated at 1.2 billion pounds during the third quarter of 2015, marking 359.8 percent increase opposed to 262.5 million pounds a year earlier.
