Egypt made its best achievement in the history of swimming tournaments after Ahmed Akram finished fourth with 14:53.66 in the Men’s 1500m Freestyle final at the World Championship in the Russian city of Kazan on Sunday.
Akram came 2.58 seconds behind third-placed Ryan Cochrane of Canada and 14 seconds off gold medal winner Gregorio Paltrinieri of Italy.
The 19-years-old swimmer was the first ever Egyptian to reach the Men’s 1500m final at the World Championship after ending the preliminary round in fifth place with a time of 14 minutes and 55.42 seconds, 4.38 seconds behind the winner Paltrinieri of Italy.
Akram is also the second Egyptian swimmer to reach the final at this tournament as Farida Osman finished fifth in the women’s 50m butterfly final on Saturday.
During this edition in Kazan, Akram also finished ninth in the Men’s 800m Freestyle and 10th in the Men’s 400m Freestyle competition.
