President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is to announce new details for the One Million Feddans development project soon, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazy said Saturday.
In a phone interview with Al Hayat TV channel, minister Moghazy said the project is to depend on wells water by 85% and 15% on irrigation water. The Ministry of Agriculture has finished digging 600 wells out of 4,000 wells set to be dug for the project, he added.
He pointed out that the project is a developmental and comprehensive social one which is aiming at sustainable development not relying on agriculture only.
In May 2015, the Egyptian government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chinese company to provide funding for the infrastructure works of the project.
Moghazy asserted that Egypt will hold a meeting with Ethiopia on August 20 to discuss the latest updates about the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
