Remembering Egypt’s Al Ahly Club Meastro Saleh Selim

Yesterday marks the 17th death anniversary of Saleh Selim, the 10th president of the Egyptian Al Ahly Sporting Club.

Known as Al Ahly Club Maestro, Selim was born in 1930 in Dokki, Giza and his father is Dr. Mohamed Selim, one of the pioneers of Anesthesiology in Egypt.

The most renowned football player and actor Saleh Selim died on May 6, 2002 of liver cancer, an illness from which he was treated in London, and which he kept a secret from his fans.

In 1944, he joined Al Ahly Club as a football player by Hassan Kamel, supervisor of the club’s team. Later, Selim became the club’s football team manager, then a member of the board of directors.

In 1980 Selim was elected Al Ahly Sporting Club’s president. He was then re-elected for *five successive times. He was then re-elected five successive times.

Moreover, he has performed in three movies, including Black Candles 1962 film with Egyptian actor and singer Najat Al Saghira.
